6 of Our Favourite Frankincense Essential Oil Diffuser Blends

If you’re a regular visitor to The Essential Life, you already know frankincense essential oil is one of my absolute favourite oils. There’s good reason for this.

Often referred to as “the king of oils” thanks to its long history of use in spirituality - most notably, the Nativity story - frankincense essential oil has a number of therapeutic benefits which make it an absolute must-have oil for your essential oil collection.

Diffusing frankincense essential oil in your aromatherapy diffuser can bring about feelings of peace, calm, relaxation and overall holistic wellness. This essential oil has a deliciously warm aroma with spicy and woody hints topped off with a clean and clarifying feeling similar to that of eucalyptus or juniper berry.

How to use frankincense essential oil

Frankincense essential oil can be used aromatically (inhaled) or topically. The Essential Life does not recommend using frankincense essential oil internally - even when ingested in a capsule.

Using frankincense essential oil aromatically

Inhaling frankincense essential oil helps promote feelings of relaxation and alleviates stress.

To use frankincense essential oil aromatically, add 3 - 5 drop of the oil to your aromatherapy diffuser.

When you’re out and about on the go, place a single drop of frankincense essential oil in the palm of your hand, massage your hands together and then cup your hands over your nose and mouth and inhale deeply.

Using frankincense essential oil topically

Applying frankincense essential oil topically has a number of health benefits.

Applying frankincense essential oil topically is extremely beneficial for your skin. It smooths wrinkles and calms skin inflammation and irritation. To smooth fine lines and wrinkles, try this frankincense essential oil recipe.

You can also blend 6 - 8 drops of frankincense essential oil into 1 tablespoon of the carrier oil of your choice (we LOVE jojoba oil) and apply the mixture to the bottoms of your feet at night just before bed. Pull on a comfy pair of socks to avoid transferring the oil to your bed sheets. Applying frankincense essential oil to the bottoms of your feet before bed promotes relaxation and helps you enjoy a more restful sleep.

When you are experiencing sinus congestion, place a single drop of frankincense essential oil to the tip of your finger and massage the oil into the areas over your sinuses.

You can also add a few drops of frankincense essential oil to your regular moisturiser in order to hydrate and rejuvenate your skin.
