Self Care is knowing & understanding what your mind needs. It's different for everyone & the first step in Self Care is knowing that taking care of your own health, your own mind, before you take care of anyone or anything else is OK. It's not selfish to want to survive...

How I Learned The Importance of Self Care

I now own my disease but it has not always been that way. I spent a lot of years living in fear & shame of being depressed, having anxiety & suicidal thoughts. Once I spoke out about it, it was like a weight was lifted. I felt like I had never felt before, for the first time in my life I was living exactly how I wanted to be. And you know what? People were really great about it.

I know that it's a scary thought, living with your illness right out in the open, but I want you to think for a second. When you have the flu you take the day off, when you break your leg you go to the doctor & get it looked at, if you have a headache you take Advil. The problem is, no one teaches you how to take care of your brain as well. However, now days you can see it everywhere & in everything, we are finally taking a stand on what is important.

Talking About Mental Health & Breaking The Stigma

We are learning that talking about mental health is truly the first step in health, period.

So you are probably thinking, that's nice, what's next? Well my friends, what't next is whatever you want it to be. You want to go take a bath? Take one. You want to dance? Dance on, tiny dancer. Do what ever feels good & what ever feels right, even if "Others" don't think it's ok.

Just feel good or, if you’re like me, just feel.
