All-Natural Makeup Remover with Essential Oils
When helping my clients transition from traditional beauty products to natural alternatives, something I get asked about a lot is makeup removers. There are a lot of makeup removers on the market, & a lot of these products contain abrasive chemical compounds that can harm our skin, the environment, & our health.
Creating an all natural makeup remover that actually worked was something I struggled with for quite a long time. I needed to create something that would dissolve makeup without harming skin. It also needed it to be strong enough to unclog pours while still being gentle enough for the sensitive skin around the eyes.
To create a natural product that worked the way I wanted it to, I concentrated on the Essential Oils that would be best for the skin on my face.
The Best Essential Oil Skincare for Your Face
Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense is one of my favourite Essential Oils, especially when it comes to skin care. If you only invest in one Essential Oil for your skin, make it Frankincense Essential Oil.
Frankincense works as a natural astringent. This property is useful in skincare because Frankincense Essential Oil helps to tone, strengthen, & lift our skin. Additionally, it helps to heal scars, & reduces the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles while adding nutrients to our skin.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is one of the most versatile Essential Oils. One of my favourite uses for Lavender Essential Oil is in skin care, especially when it comes to the sensitive skin of the face.
Lavender is a gentle Essential Oil that can be used to cleanse & tone the face while calming the skin to avoid irritation. In a makeup remover, Lavender helps to lift oil out of pores. It also has a healing property which makes it great for dry or irritated skin.
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea Tree Essential Oil is naturally antibacterial. This property makes it an asset in cleansing the skin. In a makeup remover, adding a few drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil helps to lift dirt & oil out of the pores preventing breakouts.
All-Natural Essential Oil Makeup Remover Recipe
When using Essential Oils on your face, it is important to correctly dilute the oils to ensure that you do not harm your skin. Before trying the following recipe, do a skin test to ensure it agrees with your skin. If this recipe does not work, try lessening the drops of Essential Oils, or for acne prone skin, you could also add a few more drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil, or Lavender Essential Oil.
In a mixture of 35ml Carrier Oil, 35ml Witch Hazel, 25ml Distilled water, & 2-5ml Vitamin E Oil (note: Vitamin E Oil can be left out), dilute the following Essential Oils:
10 drops - Frankincense Essential Oil
5 drops - Lavender Essential Oil
5 drops - Tea Tree Essential Oil
If you find, after you have done a skin test, that this recipe is irritating your skin too much you can try the mixture with no Essential Oils at all. If you find your skin is still getting irritated, reduce the amount of Witch Hazel used in the base.
