Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint is another Essential Oil that I SUPER excited to share with you. It's one of my all-time favourite oils along with Wintergreen. You might be noticing a bit of a pattern here & that is that I LOVE really strong scents, like the ones indicative of the menthol family. It's totally true! One of the things you'll find as your become more familiar with Essential Oils, is that you will naturally gravitate to certain scents. This is totally natural. The body knows what you need & that's why some Essential Oils will be FAR more attractive to you than others.

Peppermint Essential Oil is another super versatile Essential Oil. Peppermint Oil has been proven to be the most effective oil for treating digestive ailments, but its wellness powers don't end there. This oil also has healing effects on the liver & respirator system, & works to effectively relieve pain, inflammation, & restore mental alertness. Peppermint Oil has a strong, sharp scent that blends well with Lavender Essential Oil, & any citrus oil. It's aroma is deep & penetrative, making it a wonderful pick-me-up. I love diffusing a blend of Peppermint & Grapefruit Essential Oils in the morning for a powerful wake-up call.

HOW TO USE PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL

Relieve gas with peppermint essential oil

If you have gas, an upset stomach, or any other digestive troubles, place 5-10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil in your palm, & rub onto your abdomen, around your navel. Because of the cooling, & tingling feeling associated with Peppermint, it is best to start with just a few drops & work your way up from there.

Stop heart burn with peppermint essential oil

To relieve heart burn, add a single drop of Peppermint to a cup of tea, or a glass of water. When adding Essential Oils to drinks, always blend it with some honey, or agave. Mixing the Oil with agave before adding to water will help the Essential Oil bond with the water. It will also help with the flavour of the Essential Oils which is, in general, not a god taste.

Peppermint Essential Oil can also be used to cure the hiccups. To do this, rub a few drops of the oil just above the base of your neck.

Reduce inflammation with peppermint essential oil

Peppermint is a natural anti-inflammatory. Just massage several drops of Peppermint Oil onto the inflamed area. It is important to note that this should only be used on areas of the body where the skin has not been broken. While many Essential Oils will sting when applied to broken skin or an open wound, Peppermint Essential Oil is especially painful because of it's cooling & tingling effect.

Prevent bruising with peppermint essential oil

To prevent bruising, apply Peppermint Essential Oil when you bump or hurt yourself. 

Break fevers with peppermint essential oil

When feeling feverish, rub Peppermint Essential Oil into the bottom of your feet. Do this continually until the fever breaks. Peppermint has a cooling effect on your body, so, to prevent shivers, start by applying 2-3 drops & work your way up from there if you feel like you need more.

Relieve itching with peppermint essential oil

If you've come into contact with Poison Ivy, dilute Peppermint Essential Oil into a carrier oil, we prefer coconut oil, but any oil will do, & apply the mixture to the affected area. For a more potent blend, add some Lavender Essential Oil to the mix. 

Cure headaches with peppermint essential oil

To relieve a headache, simply rub a drop of Peppermint Oil onto your temples. For migraines, or tensions headaches, you can apply a few drops to the back of your neck & over your sinuses.  When applying Peppermint Oil to your face, be sure to keep it away from your eyes. Even without direct contact, Peppermint can cause pain & eye watering.

Get rid of sinus and nasal congestion with peppermint essential oil

Peppermint Essential Oil can also help relieve nasal congestion. Simply rub a drop over your sinuses, & place a drop directly under your nose.

Peppermint Essential Oil is an awesome, & versatile Oil. It is also great for blending & diffusing in your home.  My personal favourite, is blending Vanilla with Cinnamon & a hint of Peppermint through the winter months to achieve a lovely warm scent. It smells really great when you diffuse peppermint on its own as well.

BLENDING WITH Peppermint ESSENTIAL OIL

Peppermint essential oil has a powerful cooling aroma that blends well with citrus essential oils like bergamot, lemon, mandarin, orange and tangerine. It also blends well with florals like chamomile and ylang ylang. For a relaxing yet invigorating mixture, diffuse peppermint essential oil with lavender.
