Basil Essential Oil
by britten thompson
Basil is one of the most common herbs. Often used in cooking, you probably have some of this fragrant herb in your kitchen right now.
While you already know basil smells and tastes good, what you might not know is that, when it is steam distilled, a powerfully uplifting and refreshing essential oil is extracted that helps with digestions and has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
A native of Asia and parts of Africa, basil plants have soft, tender and bright green leaves. With a flavour similar to that of anise, basil has a strong and sweet aroma. The basil is an annual plant which means, if you’re growing it in your her garden, it will die off each year. In some areas of Australia, however, it is warm enough to grow basil all year long.
