Spiritual Grounding & How Important It Is

What is grounding (aka earthing)? Spiritual grounding is a practice that connects you energetically with the earth. It allows you to remain present & connected with your physical body here on earth. Your body is used as a conductor for the earth's energy.

The benefits of grounding is it can expel unwanted or excess energy, such as stress or anxiety. Grounding can also act like a bridge between your spiritual & physical form. Grounding is used in many different forms before meditations, astral projections & healing sessions which are beneficial for the healer as well as the patient.

Do you often feel rushed, overworked, tired, panicked, angry, clumsy or just plain drained? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you will most definitely benefit from some grounding techniques I can teach you in this blog.

All About Grounding & How it Will Help You in Your Life

My name is Nadia & I am a Reiki Master, Energy Awakener & Aqualead practitioner. During my journey as an energy healer, I have often had to stop & reconnect myself with the earth. This is equally important as a healer or day to day living. Our connection to mother earth is so important, we often forget this & become so consumed with technology & life. We tend to forget the small things in life.

In this busy day & age we live in, we often forget about this connection to Mother Earth & what it can do for our lives. I have been guilty of this as well, trying to balance my work as a healer & be the nurturing mother to my family. After literally planning out exactly how I can keep myself grounded, I wrote myself a journal outlining step by step what I can do. Whenever I feel lost I can look back & find myself again. Keeping a journal with any tips or techniques for grounding, will keep us from forgetting the small steps we can take.

I am going to share with you now how you can keep yourself grounded & how important it is for your body, mind & soul.

The First Step to Connecting With Mother Earth

Stop for a moment & think about the last time you spent some quality time outdoors? Was it at the beach? Walking in the park? Sitting in your own backyard? Or perhaps a nature walk? How did you feel when you were outdoors? Did you feel the wind or the warmth of the sun? Did you take a really deep breath of fresh air. Often we take for granted the beauty of the outdoors & the energy that can be found in Mother Earth. Next time you are outdoors, put that cell phone away for a moment & feel the energy of the earth. This is the first step in grounding or earthing.

Take off your shoes & socks & walk barefoot in the grass.

If you are anything like me, I despise wearing shoes in the summer. Right now you are probably thinking to yourself, is this woman nuts? Why would I take my shoes off on the grass? Trust me when I say, this is a perfect way to feels the earth's energy. Walk through the grass & feel the tranquil energy naturally transfer to your body from the earth. Whenever you are walking, sitting or laying down on the earth, the earth's electrons are conducted into your body bringing the same electrical potential to the earth itself. Or what we call earthing.


The human body starves for these natural electrons & this can easily be obtained walking barefoot on the earth. Other ways can do laying on the grass, placing your palms directly on the earth or gardening. Digging in the soil is a great way to feel the earth's energy. 

If you are a water & beach lover, there is nothing wrong with heading to your nearest waterfront. Sand, water or the sun are all natural conductors of earth's energy. So instead of looking at pictures of sunsets on your computer screen, go outside & watch one in real time.

Take a second right now & take a deep breath in & out. How does your body feel? Warm? Tingly? Your body will always tell you what you are in need of. Pay close attention to how your body feels.


My second technique to keeping your body earth connected is my examining your diet.

I am in no position to judge anyone's eating habits, but I can give you some suggestions on what foods will help you feel more grounded than others. Of course, as human beings, we love to have that fast comfort food once in a while. But do you ever feel so tired, drained & just awful after eating fast food? Fast food, boxed food, & meat decrease your body's energy frequency.

It is thought that meat will increase your body's energy, when this is in fact false. Meat will decrease your frequency. As an energy healer like myself, a raw vegan diet is ideal for keeping your energy levels high.

I am in no way saying you have to become a vegetarian to become earth connected. Being a vegetarian is a choice you have to make. Consult your doctor whenever making any major changes to your diet, to know if this is the right one for you. If you do decide to not eat any meat products, it is best to remove meat from your diets gradually. I had been a meat eater my entire life, it was only when I became an energy healer, that I decided to make the choice for my own personal health.

You can always decrease the amount of meat you do intake, & substitute with more raw vegetables & grains. Eating any vegetables that are grown from the earth, will help your body feel more connected to it. Some examples of vegetables are:

  • There are many others out there, this is merely an example.

Grounding Crystals

Crystal healing has been practiced for centuries as a method to heal the body, both internally & externally. This can be done by wearing the crystal, carrying it with you, adding it to a spray bottle with Essential Oils, or keeping them around your home or office space. Crystals are often used in healing sessions & prove very strongly to draw out any negative energy in the body.

I wear my healing crystals around my neck or on a bracelet every day. Keeping it close to my skin so I can feel its energy. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or anxious, I hold my crystals in my non-dominant hand (the hand you do not write with), & just feel its healing energy for a few moments. It provides instant rejuvenation!

A few examples of grounding crystals you can use are:

  • Black Tourmaline
  • Onyx
  • Obsidian
  • Smoky Quartz
  • Hematite
  • Black Opal

These are only examples, there are many more crystals to choose from. When shopping, choose the one that feels right for you. Pick one up & feel its energy in your hand. If it does not speak to you, try another. You can also ask in your head if it wants to come home with you.

Add some grounding crystals to your bath along with a cup of sea salt or himalayan salt. A grounding bath can work wonders on the body!

Grounding Scents

Have you ever walked through a garden & breathed in the smell of flowers?

You know that saying “Take time to stop & smell the roses,”? Well, this is true. Take a moment to smell a fresh flower in bloom, it can be exhilarating.

Certain flowers we smell we are instantly in awe with & they make you feel born again. I have this connection when I smell lavender or lilacs. Scents are very important to use as humans. Beautiful scents can make us feel happy, while not-so-nice scents cause us to repel. If you are an Essential Oil junkie, you probably already have most of the oils needed for instant grounding. If you are new to Essential Oils, you may want to pick up a few & see which scents speak to you.

Essential Oils can be worn on the body or diffused. There's nothing better than filling your entire home with the smell of flowers or citrus! Chakra bracelets that can be infused with Essential Oils, are the latest craze right now. I personally enjoy having a smell on my wrist, every so often I can stop to smell it. It is a quick and easy way to ground yourself.

Don't limit yourself to merely Essential Oils. If you prefer incense for your home, you can find many of these scents as incense. There are also Essential Oil sprays, if you are looking for a quick fix or something you can carry in your bag.

A few examples of grounding Essential Oils:

  • Lavender
  • Ylang Ylang
  • Cedarwood
  • Sandalwood
  • Patchouli
  • Cypress
  • Ho Wood
  • Chamomile
  • Myrrh

You may add any of these to a glass or PET spray bottle with some distilled water. Add a grounding stone of your choice to the bottle. You've just created an instant grounding spray! Spray the blend above your head, on your body or bottoms of the feet. You can also add a few drops of these oils to your bath.

Healing Sound

Another way to ground & earth connect is through sound.

The vibration of sound can be felt in your entire body & especially your head. The right tone can be especially grounding. A few different options are singing bowls, binaural beats or the sound of your own voice.

Singing bowls come in different sizes & tones & you choosing the right one depends on what appeals to you. They can stabilise & ground your root chakra almost instantly. Binaural beats are specifically composed tones, mainly found in meditation music. The sounds can be very grounding & calming. You may find many different selections of binaural beats on youtube, or purchase CDs on Amazon.

The sound of your own voice can be exceptional powerful as well. Humming a tune in your head or out loud. Start high with the tone & end low. Pay close attention to the sensations you feel in your body when you sing. Feel the sensation from your legs down to your feet & hold it there. Play around with the tone as you hum.

I do hope my blog can lead you in the right direction to becoming more grounded & earth connected. There is no better time than today to start a meditation or yoga. Eat right & exercise when you can. Be good to your body, as it is the only place you have to live. Namaste!
