Sleep is imperative for our bodies to recover & rejuvenate overnight. After the stress of everyday life, sleep allows our body to recharge & refocus both mentally & physically.
Studies have shown that when our body is deprived of sleep, it can be associated with many health risks & place a tremendous burden on virtually every organ system in our body. Not only does it have a negative impact on our overall health & wellbeing, it can also influence how we feel, learn & behave.
Sleep has been an area of concern for both myself & my children for a number of years. Lack of sleep, or poor quality sleep, has lead to irritability & crankiness, poor concentration, lack of focus & low immunity. This would then trigger emotional reactions, stress & discontent.
For my eldest daughter in particular, the inability to go to sleep would trigger anxious feelings & tension, making sleep even more elusive. Busy people with busy minds need to be able to shut down, relax & recharge in order to function effectively. Essential Oils have had a profound impact in supporting us in going to sleep & staying asleep, as well as grounding & soothing emotions.

How to Use Your Essential Oils to Get to Sleep
Aromatic: Choose your oils & place drops in a diffuser to circulate & create a calm & peaceful environment, whilst purifying the air as you sleep
Topical: Use chosen drops diluted with fractionated coconut oil & massage into bottom of the feet, wrists & across forehead.
Bath: Add a few drops of calming oils to 1 cup of Epsom Salts & dissolve into a warm bath.
Extra Tips for a Good Nights Sleep
- Eat a healthy diet & try to refrain from eating too close to bedtime, especially processed, high sugar foods. Try snacking on a handful of nuts - these little power houses provide protein & fat & are rich in magnesium, a mineral that helps to calm the nervous system.
- Get into a rhythm & go to bed at the same time each night.
- Allow your body time to wind down & shift into ‘Sleep Mode’
- Use calming Essential Oils like Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, or Chamomile.
- Say no to caffeine & alcohol.
To support optimal & restful sleep, my family & like to diffuse our Essential Oils as well as apply them topically. Using both these methods allows the Essential Oils to relax tense muscles & calm & soothe active minds.
Essential Oils Blends for Sleep
Quiet Minds Aromatherapy Diffuser Blend
2 drops - Vetiver Essential Oil
2 drops - Lavender Essential Oil
1 drop - Cedarwood Essential Oil
Soothing Sleep Massage Blend
In a 10ml roller combine the following Essential Oils & tops the blend off with some fractioned coconut oil, or a Carrier Oil of your choice.
15 drops - Lavender Essential Oil
10 drops - Vetiver Essential Oil
5 drops - Frankincense Essential Oil
5 drops - Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
5 drops - Chamomile Essential Oil
Massage into soles of feet paying particular attention to the under side of the big toe area, across forehead & on wrists
