All About Mindfulness
What is Mindfulness?
The practice of Mindfulness is all about training yourself to be present, attentive & content in the moment. It's about focusing only on the now & shutting both the past & future out of your mind. Mindfulness is a purposeful concentration on the here & now as well as what is going on in each moment as it passes. Mindfulness is about focusing on the present without prejudice or judgement.
Mindfulness was born out of the understanding that most of us spend far too much time going over the past & ruminating on where we have been. When we're not looking back at where we have already been, most of us are looking ahead with a great deal of trepidation & anxiety. Rather than looking back or looking ahead, Mindfulness teaches us to be in the present & to find contentedness in that.
What is the Purpose of Mindfulness?
In your personal Mindfulness practice, you will find a number of benefits & uncover many ways in which Mindfulness has improved your life. You will find that Mindfulness leaves you clear headed & clear thinking. As you delve deeper into your Mindfulness practice, you will find a deeper understanding of yourself & you will gain clarity on who you are.
Practicing Mindfulness on a regular basis also helps to slow down your nervous system in order to relieve stress & ease feelings of anxiety. The greater understanding & appreciation of your surrounding environment will also help you to develop a more effective coping strategy for stress. Mindfulness also improves concentration & focus.
Who Should Practice Mindfulness?
The short answer to this questions is: everyone. Mindfulness is deeply rooted in Buddhism & other Eastern religions, but has gained popularity in Western culture in the last 40 years. Mindfulness can be practiced while you Meditate or while you practice Yoga. It can also be practiced while out for a run, while driving or even when you are doing something as basic & everyday as brushing your teeth or applying your make-up.
