5 Great Essential Oils for Pain Relief

In continuing our blogging series on Pain Management, I wanted to fill our readers in on the 5 most powerful Essential Oils for pain relief.  This list is by no means exhaustive.  What I wanted to present you with today was a starting point.  These 5 Essential Oils are where you should start when it comes to using Essential Oils to manage pain.

The Best Essential Oils to Relieve Pain

Marjoram Essential Oil

Distilled from the leaves of the Knotted Marjoram plant, this Essential Oil has a long history of treating joint swelling, stiffness, muscle fatigue, & arthritis pain.  You can dilute this Essential Oil into a Carrier Oil & use it as a massage oil for all of your aches & pains.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint Essential Oil is one of my favourite oils for pain management.  When applied to the skin, it has a cooling effect that helps to immediately reduce pain.  Additionally, Peppermint Essential Oil is a powerful anti-inflammatory which makes it excellent for use on healing injuries, or swollen & achy joints.

Peppermint should always be diluted into a Carrier Oil before being applied to the skin.  When using this oil, it is best to start by diluting Peppermint at a very low concentration as some people find Peppermint's "cooling effect" slightly uncomfortable.  Feel free to add more Essential Oil to your Carrier Oil if you are comfortable with the tingling sensation.

Ginger Root Essential Oil

Ginger Root Essential Oil is the oil that I recommend most for back pain.  It is an anti-inflammatory that eases joint pain & muscle fatigue.

Diluting Ginger Root Essential Oil into a Carrier Oil makes an excellent massage oil for tired & achy muscles.  It can also be added to bath water post-workout, to help alleviate muscle strain.

Wintergreen Essential Oil

Wintergreen Essential Oil is another minty oil that is great for relieving pain.  I recommend this one to clients who have suffered an injury to their bones or joints.  It is also the oil that I recommend most for treating arthritis.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

Helichrysum Essential Oil is a powerful healing oil.  Because it tends to be a more expensive Essential Oil, I always recommend purchasing Helichrysum Essential Oil from a retailer who will sell by the drop.

About The Author - Britten Thompson

Who is Britten? She's a reticent little beast born in the wilds of Northern Alberta to a foul-mouthed, French-Canadian father & an angry, stiff-upper-lipped mother. Britten is, almost always, wild-haired & poorly dressed. She recently left the beautiful & untamed chill of Canada for the blistering & somewhat oppressive heat of Australia. Her list of pastimes is short & includes reading, writing, petting cats, overeating & alphabetizing things. She's a fan of Windex on Facebook because who doesn't want a streak free shine? She dreams of one day writing a super-awesome novel that affords her & her partner a comfortable lifestyle, a large property, a few horses & the means with which to foster children in need...or just becoming a red panda.

When Britten isn't writing, reading, or organizing things in her home, she can be found cuddling with her boyfriend, arguing about why Rajon Rondo is the best point guard in the history of ever, browsing Gumtree for a future cat or kitten, or contemplating days gone by, the passage of time & how ridiculous it is that humans have yet to evolve enough to grow a third set of teeth.
