Essential Oil Recipe to Relieve Nerve Pain

I don't know if you've ever experienced the debilitating pain associated with nerve pain, but if you haven't, count yourself lucky & say your prayers that you'll never find yourself in a situation where you've got a pinched, damaged or exposed nerve. While pain of any degree is unpleasant, it is a useful function of the nervous system. Pain alerts the brain to danger which is necessary for self-preservation. Sometimes, however, things go horribly wrong & the nervous system goes haywire, or, an injury or accident causes irreparable damage to a nerve which leads to severe pain. Diseases such as cancer, HIV, diabetes, shingles, & various autoimmune disorders can lead to nerve pain & nerve damage.

Anyone who has experienced nerve pain will tell you that it is one of the worst, if not THE worst, pain they have ever felt. There are a number of over-the-counter treatment available for nerve pain, however, depending upon the severity, these treatments tend to do little to dull the pain. There are also highly effective treatment available through your doctor, however, many of these drugs are addictive & lead to dependancy issues.

There are also a number of natural treatments available for nerve pain. Many doctors recommend acupuncture, osteopathy & physiotherapy to improve mobility & reduce pain. Using Essential Oils in conjunction with any of these therapies helps to improve the effectiveness of the treatment.

Essential Oils for Treating Nerve Pain

The following Essential Oils work to ease the pain & discomfort associated with nerve pain.

Chamomile Essential Oil

Chamomile Essential Oil has a number of healing properties.  When it comes to relieving the pain associated with nerve damage, Chamomile is particularly effective thanks to it's anti-neuralgic properties. Chamomile Essential Oil reduces nerve pain by constricting the blood vessels that surround the nerve thereby relieving built-up pressure.

In addition, Chamomile is a powerful stress reliever. When we experience nerve pain, our bodies' natural stress-reaction often compounds the problem. Chamomile helps to ease tension so you can relax & prevent yourself from doing further damage to your nerve.

Marjoram Essential Oil

Marjoram Essential Oil is particularly effective in helping to manage nerve pain associated with nerve damage as it is acts both as a natural pain reliever, & works wonders on the entire nervous system.  Marjoram has been shown to strengthen the nervous system, &, when damage to nerves occurs, Marjoram helps to speed up the healing process.

This Essential Oil powerhouse also treats swelling & inflammation which make it especially effective for nerve pain associated with injury.

Helichrysum Essential Oil

Helichrysum Essential Oil is a naturally occurring nervine which means that regular use helps to strengthen the nervous system & prevent nerve damage associated with ageing & injury.  Additionally, Helichrysum Essential Oil relieves nervous pain by reducing stress levels.

While Helichrysum Essential Oil is one of the pricier oil, it is worth every penny. The pain relieving properties of Helichrysum are like none other & this super-charge oil accelerates healing so you'll be back to normal faster.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender Essential Oil is notorious for its calming benefits. The calming & stress relieving properties of Lavender make it excellent for helping to relieve nervous tension & nerve pain.

Essential Oil Recipe to Relieve Nerve Pain

The following recipe should be diluted into into your favourite carrier oil. My personal preference in coconut oil, but you can use olive oil, or any other cold-pressed vegetable oil you have handy.

  • 16 drops - Chamomile Essential Oil
  • 12 drops - Marjoram Essential Oil
  • 12 drops - Helichrysum Essential Oil
  • 8 drops - Lavender Essential Oil

Once you have combined the Essential Oils with the coconut oil, or which ever oil you used, wait 24 hours so that the oils have had time to settle. You can then apply this massage oil to affected areas throughout the day, as needed. To keep the Essential Oils in this recipe from going bad, be sure to store your massage oil in a glass amber bottle, & keep out of direct sunlight.

For a more potent mixture, St. Johns Wort Herbal Oil can be used as a base instead of carrier oil.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR - BRITTEN THOMPSON

Who is Britten? She's a reticent little beast born in the wilds of Northern Alberta to a foul-mouthed, French-Canadian father & an angry, stiff-upper-lipped mother. Britten is, almost always, wild-haired & poorly dressed. She recently left the beautiful & untamed chill of Canada for the blistering & somewhat oppressive heat of Australia. Her list of pastimes is short & includes reading, writing, petting cats, overeating & alphabetizing things. She's a fan of Windex on Facebook because who doesn't want a streak free shine? She dreams of one day writing a super-awesome novel that affords her & her partner a comfortable lifestyle, a large property, a few horses & the means with which to foster children in need...or just becoming a red panda.

When Britten isn't writing, reading, or organizing things in her home, she can be found cuddling with her boyfriend, arguing about why Rajon Rondo is the best point guard in the history of ever, browsing Gumtree for a future cat or kitten, or contemplating days gone by, the passage of time & how ridiculous it is that humans have yet to evolve enough to grow a third set of teeth.
