101 Ways to Use Essential Oils
1 - Put a few drops of your favourite Essential Oil onto a cotton ball & place it inside a vacuum bag. As you vacuum, the scent will fill your home & leave it smelling fresh.
2 - To kill germs in the kitchen, soak your dishcloth in warm water with 5-10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil or any other citrus oil. Citrus Essential Oils are naturally antibacterial & have a lovely fresh scent than is perfect for the kitchen.
3 - You can make your own all natural sink scrub by combining 1/2 cup baking soda with 1/8 cup vinegar & 10-15 drops of your favourite citrus Essential Oils. Mix all three ingredients in your sink & scrub then rinse the mixture away with warm water.
4 - For areas of your home with a particularly pungent odour, place 3-5 drops of Essential Oil on a cotton ball & place them at the bottom of a waste bin, behind a cat litter box, in the back of a cupboard, or wherever there is a nasty & persistent odour.
5 - Lemon Essential Oil can help increase the shelf life of fruit. Fill a bowl with cool water, & add 5-10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil. Put your fruit into the water, stir it around, & then let it air dry. You will find that your fruits stay fresh for days longer than they ordinarily would.
6 - For stinky, gunky, messes, trying putting 1-5 drops of Lemon or Eucalyptus Essential Oil on gum, oil, glue, or difficult to remove adhesives.
7 - To deodorise carpets, add 10-15 drops of your favourite Essential Oil to a box of baking soda. Mix the two ingredients together & let the mixture sit for 24 hours. Once the mixture has set, sprinkle the baking soda over your carpet. Let the baking soda sit for up to an hour, & then vacuum.
8 - If you don't have an Ultrasonic Diffuser & you want to get rid of strong cooking odours, add a few drops of your favourite Essential Oils to a pot of water, & leave it to simmer until the odours have dissipated.
9 - Using citrus oils in the bathroom can be a great way to dispel nasty odours. Saturate a few cotton balls with a citrus Essential Oil & place the cotton balls around your bathroom.
10 - To get your fridge squeaky clean & smelling fresh, add 5-10 drops of a citrus Essential Oil to a small amount of water & use the mixture as a final rinse when cleaning. Bergamot, Lemon, or Grapefruit Essential Oils will work well.
11 - You can make your own all natural surface cleaner by mixing 1 cup vinegar with 2 cups water & 20-30 drops each of Lime & Eucalyptus Essential Oil.
12 - Keep most vermin away with Peppermint Essential Oil. Saturate a cotton ball with Essential Oil & place it near the area where mice, spiders, or ants enter your home. This is a humane way to deter unwelcome visitors from entering your home.
13 - You can dispel fruit flies by mixing 20-30 drops each of Peppermint & Lavender Essential oil to 500ml of water in a large pray bottle. Spray this mixture around your kitchen, & down the drains of your kitchen sink. Be sure to shake the mixture before each use.
14 - To treat cold sores & blisters, mix 1-3 drops of Thieves Blend with 1/2 teaspoon of Carrier Oil & apply to the affected area 3 times daily.
15 - For symptoms of nausea, mix 1-3 drops of Peppermint, Ginger, or Nutmeg Essential Oil into 1/2 tea spoon of Carrier Oil & massage into the around around you navel up to three times hourly until symptoms dissipate.
16 - For sore, achy feet, add 10 drops each of Vetiver, Patchouli, & Peppermint Essential Oil to 1 table spoon of Epson salt. Add the mixture to hot water & pour into a basin large enough to soak your feet.
17 - If you're a teeth grinder, massage a few drops of Lavender & Valerian Root into the bottom of your feet each night before bed.
18 - To help boost your immune system, & fight off cold & flu symptoms, massage a few drops of Tea Tree & Thyme Essential Oil into the bottom of your feet each might before bed.
19 - For yogis, you can make your very own Yoga mat cleaner by mixing 12 drops of Sweet Orange Essential Oil with 6 drops of Tea Tree, & 6 drops of Lavender into 100ml of water. To use, simply shake the bottle to mix & spritz over your mat & wipe clean with a dry towel.
20 - You can relieve symptoms of PMS by combining 2 drops each of Clary Sage, Basil, & Rosemary with 1 tablespoon of Carrier Oil. Massage the mixture over your lower abdomen. You can also apply a warm water bottle, or heating pad after applying the mixture.
21 - For headaches, & migraine pain, mix two drops of Peppermint & Lavender Essential Oil with 1 teaspoon of Carrier Oil. Massage the mixture into your temples, & the back of our neck.
22 - To create an all-natural & lovely smelling vapour rub, mix 10 drops of Fir Needle & Spruce Essential Oil with 1 teaspoon of Carrier Oil. Apply the mixture to your chest at night, or whenever you are feeling congested.
23 - For neck pain, massage 1-3 drops of Sweet Birch, or Peppermint, Essential Oil into the back of your neck with your finger tips. After applying the Essential Oils, be sure to wash your hands.
24 - To improve circulation, add 10-15 drops of Neroli Essential Oil to your bath water. For a more indulgent experience, add some Epson salt to your water as well.
25 - To disinfect, apply Lavender or Tea Tree Essential Oil directly to cuts, scrapes, or burns. For a first-aid remedy, mix 20-30 drops of Lavender or Tea Tree Essential Oil into 100ml of purified water in a spray bottle. This spray can be applied directly to wounds to disinfect & promote healing.
26 - During the warm summer months, you can cool yourself down by adding 5-10 drops of Eucalyptus, Peppermint, or Sweet Birch Essential Oil to your bath water. All of these oils have a cooling affect on your skin, & are useful during the winter months as well, as they calm skin inflammation caused by dry weather.
27 - Inhaling Peppermint Essential Oil will help to curb you appetite & will prevent you from over-eating. Rub a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil into the palms of your hands then cup your hands around your nose & mouth & inhale deeply. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly afterward.
28 - Cure a hangover by blending equal parts Juniper Berry, Cedarwood, Grapefruit, Lavender, Rosemary & Lemon Essential Oil. Add 10-15 drops of this blend to a warm bath & relax.
29 - If you're being kept awake at night by someone's snoring, try mixing 3 drops of Thyme Essential Oil into 1/2 teaspoon of Carrier Oil & then apply to the bottoms of their feet before bed.
30 - For jaw tension, add 1-2 drops each of Peppermint & Lavender Essential Oil to 1/2 teaspoon of Carrier Oil. Massage this mixture into the soft area of skin just beneath your earlobes.
31 - Inhaling Peppermint before a workout will stave off fatigue, & to boost your mood. If you're working out at home, try diffusing Peppermint Essential Oil while you workout.
32 - For winter colds, add 2-4 drops each of Lavender, Rosemary, & Eucalyptus Essential Oil to 1 cup milk, or cream. Pour the mixture into a warm bath & soak yourself in the warm water.
33 - For fevers, add 1-3 drops each of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, & Lavender Essential Oils to cool water. Use a sponge to apply the mixture to your body.
34 - As a little pick-me-up during the day, rub a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil between your palms & inhale deeply. This will also work with Grapefruit, or a combination of the two, to boost your energy levels.
35 - To ease a tension headache, massage a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil into the back of your neck & your temples. Be careful to avoid getting any Essential Oils in your eyes.
36 - For the times when you've over-done it at the gym, mix 1-3 drops each of Eucalyptus, Ginger, & Sage Essential Oils with 1 tablespoon of Carrier Oil & massage it into sore & achy muscles or joints.
37 - If you've got trouble getting to sleep, or if you're prone to restless nights, dab a few drops of Roman Chamomile & Lavender Essential Oil onto your pillow before bedtime. If you have an Ultrasonic Diffuser at home, try diffusing 3-5 drops of these two oils while you sleep.
38 - For Arthritis pain, mix 2-4 drops each of Wintergreen, Cypress, & Ginger Essential Oil into 2 tablespoons of Carrier Oil. Massage into swollen & achy joints.
39 - To get rid of ringworm, make a massage oil by adding 3 drops each of Tea Tree & Spearmint Essential Oil to 1 tablespoon Carrier Oil. For a stronger mixture, add 1 drop each of Peppermint & Rosemary Essential Oils.
40 - For head lice, combine 3-5 drops each of Thyme, Lavender, & Geranium Essential Oil with 1 tablespoon of Carrier Oil. Massage the mixture into your scalp, & then leave on for 1/2 hour. Be sure to shampoo & rinse well.
41 - To sooth blisters & help them heal faster, add 2-5 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil to 1 teaspoon of Carrier Oil. Massage the blister with the oil throughout the day as needed.
42 - For bruises, apply a mixture of 1 drop Clove Essential Oil & 4 drops Lavender Essential Oil directly onto the bruise & massage gently. Apply up to 4 times daily until the bruise is no longer visible.
43 - For relief of mild sunburns, blend 2 drops each of Lavender, Rose, & Roman Chamomile Essential Oils then add this blend to 1 tablespoon of Carrier Oil. Apply your mixture to a cotton ball & massage into dry, sunburnt skin.
44 - You can ease the pain from an injury or sprain by adding 2-4 drops each of Basil, Pine, & Wintergreen Essential Oil into 1/2 teaspoon of Carrier Oil. Apply this mixture to your injury up to 5 times each day.
45 - Treat the skin inflammation associated with Poison Oak, or Poison Ivy by mixing 3 drops of Wintergreen Essential Oil into 1/2 teaspoon of Carrier Oil & then apply the mixture to the affected skin.
46 - Create an all-natural insect repellent by mixing 5-10 drops Peppermint, 5-10 drops Tea Tree, & 10-15 drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil together. Add this blend to 1-2 tablespoons of Carrier Oil, & massage into skin.
47 - For children, try diffusing Lavender Essential Oil in your home in the evening to prepare your kids for bedtime. If you don't have a diffuser, dilute Lavender Essential Oil into a Carrier Oil, & massage it into your child's feet before bed.
48 - To heal bee stings or insect bites, apply 1-2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil to the bite.
49 - Before Meditating rub a few drops of Frankincense Essential Oil into the palms of your hands. Cup your hands around your nose & mouth, & inhale deeply. Frankincense is an oil deeply rooted in spirituality & it helps clear your mind to achieve emotional calm.
50 - As described in Christian literature, for religious ceremonies, apply Frankincense & Myrrh Essential Oil.
51 - For a deeply spiritual experience, mix Myrrh Essential Oil into a Carrier Oil & use as a full body massage oil.
52 - During meditation, apply Spikenard Essential Oil to the bottoms of your feet for a very grounding experience.
53 - While practicing Yoga, diffuse Lavender, Geranium, & Roman Chamomile Essential Oils.
54 - When traveling, mix Thieves Blend with water in a spray bottle, & spritz around your hotel room to kill germs.
55 - If you're a nervous flyer, bring a small bottle of equal parts Lavender & Roman Chamomile whenever you travel. Dab this blend to the insides of your wrists & put a few drops on your temples to calm your nerves.
56 - To boost your immune system during cold & flu season, rub a few drops of Oregano Essential Oil into the bottoms of your feet each night before bed.
57 - If you're prone to motion sickness, rub a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil into your palms, cup your face, & inhale deeply until your symptoms are alleviated.
58 - To get rid of stale cigarette odour, blend 4-6 drops each of Rosemary, Tea Tree, & Eucalyptus Essential Oil, add this blend to 100ml of water in a spray bottle & spritz around your room & directly onto smelly fabrics.
59 - During the holiday season, blend equal parts Vanilla, Pine, & Cypress Essential Oils. Use this blend in a diffuser, or in a spray bottle with water & use as a room spray.
60 - When painting a room in your home, mix 10ml of Peppermint Essential Oil into a gallon can of paint for a nicer scent. The low concentration of Peppermint oil will not compromise your paint at all.
61 - To create an air freshener for your car, mix 5-10 drops of Lime Essential Oil into 250ml of water & spray onto the fabric of your car's interior.
62 - Add 5-10 drops of any Essential Oil to an oil burner to scent your home.
63 - For an all-natural room spray, add 20-30 drops of your favourite Essential Oil to 100ml of water in a spray bottle. Be sure to shake well before each use.
64 - If you've got a fireplace, put 5-10 drops of Pine, or Frankincense Essential Oil onto a log before burning. Give the oil a few minutes to absorb into the wood before lighting the log. Please do not attempt to add Essential Oils to a fire that is already lit.
65 - For shoes with a particularly pungent odour, put a few drops of Geranium Essential Oil onto a cotton ball & place in the toe of each shoe.
66 - Add a scent to your Christmas cards this year by placing a drop of Cassia, Cinnamon, or Fir Needle Essential Oil onto your card's envelope. Leave the envelope in a sandwich bag overnight to infuse the aroma.
67 - To help freshen your laundry, drip 20-30 drops of your favourite Essential Oil onto a piece of terry cloth or a tea towel & put it in the dryer with your laundry.
68 - To stay focused while working or studying, diffuse a blend of Grapefruit, Peppermint, & Rosemary Essential Oils in the area you are working. If you are working in a public place, add this blend to a bit of Carrier Oil, massage into your hands, & inhale.
69 - To scent an unscented candle, light the candle & let it burn for a while. Once some of the wax has melted, blow the candle out & then add the Essential Oil of your choosing & re-light the candle. A really lovely blend to try in your candles is 3 drops of Orange Essential Oil, & 5 drops of Vanilla Essential Oil.
70 - If you work in a stressful environment, keep a blend of Lavender & Grapefruit Essential Oils on hand. When you need to relax, diffuse this blend in your office, or massage a few drops into your temples.
71 - If you have dry, brittle nails, mix 10 drops each of Frankincense, Myrrh, & Lemon Essential Oil into 2 tablespoons of Vitamin E Oil. Store this mixture in an amber bottle, away from direct sunlight & massage into cuticles twice each week.
72 - Make your own anti-ageing serum by blending 5 drops Sandalwood, 4 drops Geranium, 3 drops Lavender, & 6 drops Frankincense Essential Oil into 50ml of Carrier Oil. Apply this serum to your face each night.
73 - To unclog pores, blend 2-4 drops each of Lemon, Tea Tree, & Orange Essential Oil. Apply to your face using a cotton ball. Avoid contact with your eyes, & avoid direct sunlight after application.
74 - To create your own all-natural, dandruff treatment, blend 5 drops Lemon, 2 drops Lavender, 1 drop Rosemary, & 2 drops Peppermint Essential Oils into 2 tablespoons Carrier Oil. Massage this oil into your scalp & leave on for 10 minutes before shampooing hair as usual.
75 - Prevent & reduce stretch marks by blending 5 drops each of Frankincense, Myrrh, & Lavender Essential Oils into 2 tablespoons of Carrier Oil. Apply this mixture twice daily.
76 - For a nighttime facial moisturiser, blend 20-30 drops of Frankincense Essential Oil into 100ml of Carrier Oil and apply to your face after cleansing and toning your skin at night.
77 - Make your own all-natural facial exfoliant by mixing 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 1/2 cup cornmeal, & 5 drops each of Patchouli, Grapefruit & Lavender Essential Oil. Store this mixture in your fridge. Use this mixture within 10 days.
78 - To create your own soothing facial toner, add 2-5 drops of Lavender Essential Oil to 100ml of purified water.
79 - To promote hair growth, put 2-3 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil on your hair brush before using.

80 - To create your own perfume, add 25-40 drops of your favourite Essential Oils to 20-30ml of plain vodka. Let your mixture sit for two weeks before using.
81 - De-stress with your own all-natural bath oil. Mix two drops each of Lavender, Ylang Ylang, German Chamomile, & Bergamot Essential Oil to 5 teaspoon of Carrier Oil. Add this oil to your bath water or use it as a massage oil.
82 - For dry hair, make an ultra-nourishing conditioner by blending 15 drops of Ho Wood, 5 drops of Sandalwood, 5 drops of Geranium, & 5 drops of Lavender Essential Oils into 4 tablespoons of Carrier Oil. Warm this mixture in a hot cup of water for 1 minute before applying to your hair. Once applied, wrap your hair in a towel for 20 minutes & then wash your hair as normal.
83 - To prevent hair loss, blend 3 drops each of Rosemary, Cedarwood, & Lavender Essential Oil into 50ml of Jojoba Carrie Oil. Massage this mixture into your scalp for five minutes & leave in your hair for one hour before washing out as normal. Use this 1-2 time per week.
84 - For a bit of added sun protection, mix 5 drops each of Myrrh & Carrot Seed Essential Oils with 1/2 teaspoon of Carrier Oil & apply. This mixture is not as potent as traditional SPF & is not suitable for prolonged sun exposure.
85 - To correct oily hair, mix 8-10 drops each of Ylang Ylang, Lime, & Rosemary Essential Oils into 2 tablespoons of Carrier Oil. Massage into your scalp & wash your hair as normal. Use this treatment 2-3 times per week.
86 - You can add a natural scent to an unscented lotion with Essential Oils. For a lovely scent that is also great for your skin, blend 10 drops of Myrrh, 15 drops of Geranium, & 5 drops of Ylang Ylang Essential Oils into 100ml of unscented lotion. This is just one combination that smells great, try a few different blends to see which one you like best.
87 - Essential Oils provide a way to naturally calm anxiety & reduce stress. A great blend for reducing stress & anxiety is 3 drops of Jasmine mixed with 3 drops of Sweet Marjoram. You can diffuse this blend, or mix it into 1/2 teaspoon of Carrier Oil & massage it into the nape of your neck & your temples.
88 - To help treat seasonal affective disorder, try diffusing a blend of equal parts Grapefruit & Peppermint. If you don't have a diffuser, you can add this blend to a small amount of Carrier Oil & wear as an all-natural perfume, or rub a few drops of the blend into the palms of your hands & inhale.
89 - To lessen feelings of depression, try running yourself a nice warm bath & adding 3-5 drops of Rose Otto to your water. This lovely oil has been shown to alleviate symptoms of depression & it's great for you skin too!
90 - Essential Oils can be made into great gifts for any occasion. For a Bridal shower, why not make the bride-to-be her very own all-natural & alluring perfume? In 30ml of Carrier Oil, add a blend of 2 drops Jasmine Absolute, 2 drops Orange, 2 drops Sandalwood, & 1 drop Ylang Ylang Essential Oils. This blend works as a soft & romantic aphrodisiac as well.
91 - To make an indulgent gift for a loved one for Valentine's day, blend 40 drops of Cocoa Absolute & 10 drops Vanilla Essential Oil. Mix the blend into 75ml of Carrier Oil. This mixture can be used as a romantic massage oil or as a sweet smelling moisturiser.
92 - For a baby shower, make baby his or her very own air freshener. Mix 20-30 drops of French Lavender Essential Oil into 100ml of distilled water in a spray bottle. Lavender Essential Oil is great for calming baby & it smells lovely as well.
93 - For an expectant mother, make her a 100% natural morning sickness aid. Blend equal parts Sweet Orange, Lemon, Peppermint, & Ginger. Dilute this blend into a Carrier Oil for a nice tummy massage oil. The mother-to-be can use this massage oil as often as needed throughout the day.
94 - To create all-natural bath salts, mix 1 cup each Epson salt & baking soda. Add 20-30 drops of your favourite Essential Oils. Popular oils include Lavender, Ylang Ylang, & Ginger.
95 - If you've noticed that your Potpourri has lost its scent, add a few drops of your favourite Essential Oil to re-invigorate the scent.
96 - For those who have trouble sleeping, put a drop or two of Lavender Essential Oil on the bulb of your reading lamp & inhale as you read at night.
97 - To leave your hair smelling lovely, after you condition, put 5-10 drops of your favourite Essential Oil into the palm of you hand & then massage into your scalp. Lavender is a great option for this & it is great for you hair & won't irritate your scalp.
98 - Tea Tree can be used to get rid of mould. Mix 45-60 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil with 100ml of distilled water, & spray the affected area. Leave the mould to dry & repeat as necessary.
99 - Make your own furniture polish by combining 2 tablespoons Olive Oil 1/2 teaspoon Lemon Essential Oil, 1/4 cup white vinegar, & 1 3/4 cup of filtered water. Mix these ingredients into a spray bottle & start cleaning!
100 - For a natural flea collar, drip 10-20 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil onto a handkerchief & tie it loosely around your pet's neck.
101 - To create your own homemade sachets, place some plain, uncooked rice onto a piece of fabric. Add any combination of Essential Oils to the rice, then gather the fabric around the rice & tie it securely. These lovely smelling sachets can be tucked into drawers, closets, & linen closets to keep your fabrics smelling lovely.
