Hey Australia! I have something important I want to tell you: the marriage equality postal vote is a slippery slope!
I Am Alexander: The story of my transition from female to make & from America to Australia.
Voting 'YES' in Australia's upcoming postal vote is about more than marriage equality. It also sends a big message to LGBTQ+ youths.
Sometimes, it can seem that the world has come so far with equality & other times it can feel like an uphill struggle. Still, there is hope.
Even if you're not part of the LGBTQ+ community, Australia, you need to vote 'yes' & this is why.
In Sharing the stories & experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals, we hope to spread acceptance & love. This is one woman's story.
Growing up in an open-minded & accepting community afforded Alex the opportunity to come to terms with her sexuality on her own. This is her story.
Australia, it's time to legislate for marriage equality & this is why.
First there was confusion, then there was depression & then came anger. After all of that, Claire is a confident individual with a positive message for anyone struggling with feelings of confusion related to their sexuality.
Going through the Catholic school system, Bo was terrified in the concept of hell & what they meant for an LGBTQ+ individual. Fortunately, Bo found a welcoming community & a brighter tomorrow, now they want to spread the message that you will find a brighter tomorrow as well.
You might think marriage equality doesn't affect you, but it does & this why.
Through the sharing of the unique experiences of all people, it is our hope that we can bring greater understanding & connectedness into the world. With that in mind, is the experience of one woman who identifies as demibixeual.
While most Western Countries, The United States included, have already legalised gay marriage, Australia has yet to have marriage equality. Instead, as of this date, they are going forward with a plebiscite which leaves the rights of a minority group of people in the hands of the majority.
The Essential Life Blog
Equality & tolerance are the pillars on which The Essential Life was built. We believe that, while humans are all different, unique & wonderful in our own, individualised way, we are also the same in our humanity. We believe that through the commonality of humanity, there is a oneness & a connectedness that binds us all together, despite the divisiveness of labels.
Here at The Essential Life, we also believe in the goodness & fairness of humanity. While there are those among us who are skeptical of tolerance, we believe that these are the people who we need to reach out to in an effort to start a conversation. A lack of tolerance is caused by a lack of understanding & when we approach one another with an open mind & an open heart, & we engage in a conversation in which we truly & completely listen to one another, we can create the ties that bind in order to build understanding.
Building a strong foundation of tolerance is a fundamental goal of The Essential Life. It is our sincerest hope that, by sharing the stories of the most marginalised members of our society, we will be able to foster connectivity & thereby, understanding for one another. In understanding, we have faith that we will find tolerance & equality - not just tolerance & equality for those of a different sexuality than what we might view as "the norm", but those of different religions, races, genders & all walks of life.
If you would like to help spark a conversation of connectedness & tolerance through the sharing of your story, please contact The Essential Life via email at info@TheEssentialLife.org, or submit your story here.
